Slides from Michael Bungay Stanier on coaching and feedback.
The most frustrating and exhilarating thing about learning a new skill is when you can successfully execute it in one aspect of your life but you fail miserably in applying it in another. This definition below hits a big one for me.
I also find it interesting how we time travel depending on our company. Have you ever noticed that in your life today you show up as an adult with rational reactions but when you interact with others from your past they have the ability to summon the version of you from the past? You show up as a version fo yourself that hasn’t experienced or learned the lessons that you’ve navigated since then.
I think the lesson, at least for me, is acknowledgement, and slowing down. I want to show up in all my relationships as myself today. Not as who I used to be. I just hope that those that are in the thick of it with me are willing to be curious enough about who I’ve become and compassionate enough to allow me to make mistakes and hopefully try again.
