In some of the hardest times of my life, I’ve had to ask for help. I use the word had on purpose, because, it was hard to ask for help. It felt like I had failed or I was somehow not living up to…. expectations, but what expectations? my own? Or are they the expectations that society is placed on us? Both?
Our society is so siloed these days. There is this unspoken expectation that we’re supposed to be able to do everything and be everything. In reality, that’s just not how we’re built, we’re meant to live in society. We’re meant to depend on others and have others depend on us.
We’re supposed to ask for help.
One thing that I can say is that I have never ever felt regret after asking for help.Asking for help has always resulted in relief and easing of burdens. The ability to ask for help when we need it actually shows more strength, then if we just try to go it alone.
I want to thank each and every one of you that has ever answered one of my cries for help. It may have seemed really small and inconsequential but what you provided in that moment meant the world to me. You never know when these small gestures can make a profound impact or even save a life.
